Nana Patekar Reveals Rishi Kapoor Would Get ‘Angry Very Quickly’; Actor Recalls How Hum Dono Co-Star Would Abuse Him, ‘Itni Gandi Gaaliyan!’
Veteran actor Nana Patekar is one of the most influential actors in the Hindi and Marathi entertainment industry. Having dabbled in movies as well as theatre plays, he never shied away from experimenting with different genres. Apart from his versatile performances, he is also known for his short temperament. The actor recently opened up about working with late actor Rishi Kapoor, who also had a short temperament, during the shoot of their film Hum Dono(1995). He recalled how not only would the latter get angry very easily, but he would even hate giving retakes.

During an interview with Lallantop, the 73-year-old actor reminisced that, “He (Rishi Kapoor) would get angry very quickly.” He went on to explain how due to his short temper, Kapoor would abuse him when they working together. The late actor didn’t like giving retakes and when asked to it made him even more angry. Recalling how he has a strong personality, Patekar recalled asking for many retakes as the takes weren’t good. Quoted by Bollywood Shaadis, The Vaccine War actor added, “I once asked him to give it another shot, as the first one was terrible. He said, 'Who is the director here? Shafi, or you? Hatao yaar isko. 'He gave the second take, which was also bad. I told him, 'Chintu ye bakwaas hai,' and he then started abusing me. Itni gandi gaaliyan! By the fifth take, he was like, 'Now I will hit you!' but that was the best take! Further during the interview, Nana revealed that he became friends with Kapoor after the film’s shoot. They had many conversations when the late actor was being treated for cancer. They often used to talk about meaningful things which further strengthened their off-screen bond. For the unversed, Rishi Kapoor breathed his last in 2020.


On the work front, Nana Patekar was last seen in Vivek Agnihotri’s The Vaccine War in 2023, co-starring Pallavi Joshi, Anupam Kher and Raima Sen. He was next seen in the Marathi film Ole Aale (2024), co-starring Siddharth Chandekar, Sayali Sanjeev, and Makarand Anaspure. The film is a remake of the Gujarati film Chaal Jeevi Laiye! He will be next seen in Anil Sharma’s Journey, co-starring Utkarsh Sharma.
