Mrunal Thakur Reveals People Called Her ‘Idiot’ For Exiting Kumkum Bhagya For Films By Saying ‘It Wasn’t Her Cup Of Tea’
Mrunal Thakur, who has worked in Love Sonia, Batla House and Super 30, says casting directors called her an ‘idiot’ for leaving a hit show like Kumkum Bhagya to join the film industry
For an outsider with no connections or no filmy background, it’s fairly a huge struggle to foray and make a mark into the world of showbiz. A lot of established actors, however, have shattered those myths and their success stories serve as enough proof. Take, for instance, Mrunal Thakur, who is a big name in both film and the TV industry. She rose to fame with her performance in Ekta Kapoor’s hit show Kumkum Bhagya; however, the actor left the show when was at the peak of her TV career, only to make a mark in Bollywood as well. In an interview with News18, Mrunal reveals how some people called her an idiot for taking such a huge step.
Mrunal said, “There were a lot of people in the industry, especially casting directors who said, 'She is an idiot for quitting a number one show on television and venturing into something that is never going to be her cup of tea’,” She added, "Today, I just want to thank all those people who have discouraged me. I still remember Radhika (Madan) and I were neighbours. She used to shoot Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi and I would shoot my show Kumkum Bhagya side by side. I'm so glad that both of us are Ekta Kapoor's heroines.”
She also thanked Ekta Kapoor and her co-stars for being so supportive throughout. “Today, I just want to thank all those people who have discouraged me. I still remember Radhika (Madan) and I were neighbours. She used to shoot Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi and I would shoot my show Kumkum Bhagya side by side. I'm so glad that both of us are Ekta Kapoor's heroine,” said Mrunal.
She added, “When I met Ekta and told her that I wanted to quit Kumkum Bhagya and do films, she never hesitated because she trusted in me. I'm so happy that I had a producer like Ekta and co-stars like Arjit (Taneja), Supriya Shukla, Sriti Jha who always supported me. These were the people who lent me their shoulders to cry on when I got rejected from films. So, I would just say that dreams do come true. You just have to keep working towards them."
Soon after Mrunal left the show, she was finalised for Tabrez Noorani’s international film, Love Sonia, and it got her a lot of critical acclamations. Mrunal then went onto star in Super 30 opposite Hrithik Roshan and with John Abraham in Batla House. As for her next, Thakur has Jersey that co-stars Shahid Kapoor.
