After releasing the teaser of the film, Kumar had shared a picture of the women scientists. "I get inspired when a film like this happens in front of me. What a brilliant story this is, inspired by a real incident," says Akshay, who plays a senior scientist in the film based on the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) scientist who worked on the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM).

Given the theme of courage, the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne will host the official Australian premiere of the film on Independence Day at HOYTS Chadstone in Melbourne which will incidentally be the first festival premiere for the film. The festival screening is expected to have a solid turnout of Indians looking for a special way to celebrate their I-day in a foreign land.

Mission Mangal is based on the true story of the Indian Space Research Organisation’s Mars Orbiter Mission. Akki essays the role of Rakesh Dhawan while Vidya Balan plays Tara Shinde and the duo is joined by a brilliant team of scientists comprising of Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, Kirti Kulhari and Nithya Menen. Together, they all embark on a next to the impossible mission of infusing home science and sending a satellite to Mars in their very first attempt, a feat achieved by no other nation.

Produced by Balki and Akshay Kumar, directed by Jagan Shakti, the makers are hoping that the film becomes a landmark in Indian cinema, much like the Hollywood sci-fi films. A film that inspires as much as it entertains. Presented by Fox Star Studios, produced by Cape of Good Films, Hope Productions and Fox Star Studios. Mission Mangal releases this Independence Day, battling with John Abraham and Mrunal Thakur starrer Batla House.
