Manoj Joshi Recalls Having A Stroke During The Shoot Of Devdas; Actor Says, ‘Was In Coma For Four Days, Lost My Eyesight, Couldn’t See For 19 Days’
Versatile actor Manoj Joshi has entertained the audiences through his brilliant performances in television serials and movies all across languages. From effortlessly playing comic relief characters to his well-known antagonist characteristics in the serial Kehta Hai Dil, he has pulled at the viewers heartstrings with his charming personality and acting chops. Having established himself as an amazing actor, he has also faced his fair share of ups and downs. During a recent interview he opened up about the time when he fell very ill while shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial Devdas.

Talking about his journey on the YouTube channel Rajshri Unplugged, he heaped praises on his wife for supporting him when he was completely bedridden and their bank balance became zero, due to his treatment. Recalling that phase of his life he explained how it was in 2001 when he had a stroke. He had fallen ill while shooting for the Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer. 


Sharing how he was on the hospital bed for one-and-a-half years, quoted by the Indian Express, the 57-year-old actor revealed, “I was in coma for four days, I lost my eyesight, I couldn’t see anything for 19 days. This is my rebirth. During that time in the hospital my bank balance became zero and my wife took tuition to support me.” 

He went on to open up about how after his recovery, doing Kehta Hai Dil in 2003, helped him gain his footing in Bollywood. He Played significant roles in movies like Hungama, Hulchul, Golmaal: Fun Unlimited, Hera Pheri and many more. Recalling how his comeback on television was well loved by the audiences, he shared, “I played the role of the main villain on the show. I was supposed to star for only four days in the show but it went on and on and eventually, I became one of the lead actors on the show.” He concluded by stating that he ended up doing over 12 films with renowned filmmaker Priyadarshan. 

On the work front, Manoj Joshi was last seen in Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Panday starrer Dream Girl 2, which has surpassed the Rs 100 crore mark at the box-office. The movie received mixed reviews from the critics as well as the audiences.
