Mai Jaya Amitabh Bachchan, Aapse Puchti Hoon: Veteran Actress Makes Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar Laugh Out Loud With Her Hilarious Dig - WATCH
Veteran actress-turned-politician Jaya Bachchan has long been a notable figure, even before her marriage to Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan. Her acting career was well-established, but after tying the knot with Amitabh, she chose to scale back on her film projects. She eventually found her calling in politics and has been serving as a member of the Rajya Sabha from the Samajwadi Party since 2004. Recently, Jaya Bachchan found herself in the midst of a controversy when she was addressed as 'Jaya Amitabh Bachchan,' which left her visibly offended. The issue sparked a debate online, especially after it was revealed that she had herself registered as 'Jaya Amitabh Bachchan' on her nomination letter. This incident led to a mix of reactions, with some supporting her stance on maintaining her independent identity and others pointing out the inconsistency.

On August 2, 2024, Jaya Bachchan addressed the situation humorously in the Rajya Sabha. She made a light-hearted reference to the controversy by introducing herself as 'Jaya Amitabh Bachchan,' which drew laughter from the entire house, including Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. In her statement, she said, "Sir, mai Jaya Amitabh Bachchan aapse puchti hoon ki. Did you get a lunch today?" Her attempt to control her laughter, while delivering the line, added to the amusement of the moment.

This incident followed her previous outburst in Parliament when she was called 'Jaya Amitabh Bachchan.' Jaya Bachchan expressed her displeasure, asserting that her identity should stand independently of her husband's name. She emphasized that merely calling her 'Jaya Bachchan' would have sufficed. Jaya further highlighted a broader issue regarding the practice of referring to women by their husbands' names, which she believes undermines their individual accomplishments and identity. She stated, "Yeh jo hai naya tareeka nikala hai mahilaye apne pati ke naam se jaani jaayegi. Unki koi astitva nahi hai, unki koi uplabadhi nahi hai," which translates to, "This new way has emerged where women will be known by their husband's name. They have no identity, they have no achievements of their own."

Despite her active political career, Jaya Bachchan has not completely stepped away from the entertainment industry. She was last seen in the film "Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani." Through her career in both acting and politics, Jaya Bachchan continues to be a significant and influential figure, advocating for women's independence and recognition of their individual identities and achievements.
