Mahesh Bhatt Puts Saaransh Remake On The Backburner
For those who were looking forward to see Hansal Mehta's protege Rajkummar Rao play B V Pradhan, the retired headmaster played by Anupam Kher in the remake of Mahesh Bhatt's Saaransh- this one is for you.

It may be recalled that Rajkummar in an exclusive interview with SpotboyE.com (January 28) had hinted that Hansal Mehta who had been assigned to do the job may not indulge in the remake. He had said: "I don’t think we are doing Saraansh. Classics should not be tampered.  I am not in favour of remaking classics.. If Hansal insists, I will tell him to try and make a version which doesn't resemble the original."

It's official now, Mahesh and Hansal have decided not to revisit the classic, not in immediate future at least.

When contacted, Mahesh told SpotboyE.com, “We wanted the remake of Saaransh to happen. But recently, Hansal came up and told me that hes not very comfortable with the idea."

Hansal, fresh from the shooting of his third directorial Aligarh, seconds Maheshs statement, adding, If I cant add anything new to the original or better it, theres no reason why I should remake a classic. Saraansh seems so fresh even today when it airs on TV, although it has been 30 years since the film hit the theatres."

Saaransh was about an elderly Maharashtrian couple- Anupam Kher and Rohini Hattangadi- struggling to cope with the death of their only son in a mugging incident in New York.
