Laxmii Actor Sharad Kelkar On The Filmfare Snub: ‘There Was No Disappointment As I Never Had Any Hopes’-EXCLUSIVE
Sharad Kelkar, who gave two amazing performances in 2020 in Ajay Devgn’s Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior and Akshay Kumar’s Laxmii, reacts on not being nominated in the Filmfare Awards 2021
Sharad Kelkar is a name in the film industry that is getting stronger with each and every performance of his. The actor with the amazing voice used to act in television before he made a switch to films at the peak of his TV career. He went on to give some amazing performances like in Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone’s Goliyon Ki Raasleela, Ram-Leela, Ajay Devgn’s Baadshaho and Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 4.
One of the most memorable projects in Sharad’s career has been SS Rajamouli’s epic fantasy franchise Baahubali. Even though he doesn’t appear on screen in them, he was the voice behind Prabhas’ Baahubali in the Hindi dubbed version for both parts.
Last year, Sharad had a career high as he opened and closed the pandemic-struck year with some memorable and spellbinding performances. From portraying the warrior-king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Ajay’s Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior with utmost aplomb, to essaying the role of the titular transgender woman who is murdered and then haunts and possesses Akshay’s character in Laxmii, with utmost grace. The actor proved his versatility and acting mettle and won hearts all over.
So, naturally when the Filmfare nominations were announced in March this year, there were expectations for Sharad to be nominated for at least one of those parts. Unfortunately, he wasn’t. Ask Sharad if he was disappointed by the snub at Filmfare and he responds, “There was no disappointment as I never had any hopes for any award. I am happy if just the audience likes my work. If I do something with the expectation of an award, then if it doesn’t happen, it will be hurtful and disappointing. So, it’s better not to just keep any hope at all,” he asserts.
Sharad goes on to insist that this is something he follows in his life truly and dearly. “That is not just about the award, but also my funda for my life. I don’t expect much from people,” he shares. Meanwhile, the actor will next be seen in Ajay’s Bhuj and had also recently announced his first film as a solo lead, Déjà vu, which is also complete and up for release.
