As she made her way back, her ex-husband, Arbaaz Khan, was one of the first to arrive at the scene. An ambulance was already stationed outside the building, and the area was filled with Mumbai police officers and members of the forensic department. The incident occurred around 9 am on September 11, 2024, when Anil Mehta reportedly took his own life by jumping from the terrace of his Bandra home. Though no suicide note was discovered, the police are continuing their investigation to explore all possible angles. Despite immediate medical attention, the 62-year-old was declared dead before reaching the hospital.

According to the neighbor, Anil had a close relationship with his daughter, Malaika, and her son, Arhaan. Arhaan had even stayed with his grandfather for a while, underscoring their strong bond. The neighbor also revealed that Anil and his ex-wife, Joyce Polycarp, maintained a good relationship despite their divorce. However, the neighbor noted that Anil appeared to be low on energy when they last met a few days before his death.
Anil Mehta's funeral was held at the Santa Cruz Hindu crematorium on September 12, 2024, with his entire family and close relatives in attendance. Since the news of his death, there has been increased public curiosity about his ex-wife, Joyce Polycarp, and her background. Joyce, a Malayali Christian, has a deep connection to her faith and ensured that her daughters, Malaika and Amrita Arora, were baptized.
