Opening up about her bond with Aamir Khan's first wife, Reena Dutta, filmmaker Kiran Rao offered glimpses into their distinctive family arrangement. Recalling her union with Aamir in 2005, the acclaimed filmmaker expressed appreciation for marrying into a remarkable family. Additionally, she affectionately described Aamir's mother, Zeenat Hussain, as the "apple of my eye." During an interview with Zoom, the Laapataa Ladies director revealed, "I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have not just married Aamir but a whole family that I adore and continue to cherish." She further expressed her enduring love for her mother-in-law, Zeenat Hussain, referring to her as the "apple of my eye." Addressing the family's unique dynamics, Kiran highlighted the continued presence of Aamir Khan's first wife, Reena Dutta, in their lives even after her divorce from Aamir in 2002. Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan embraced parenthood with the birth of their son, Azad, via surrogacy. Despite their decision to divorce in 2021 after a fifteen-year marriage, they reaffirmed their dedication to co-parenting Azad in a unified statement, expressing gratitude to their loved ones for their steadfast backing.
