Karan Johar Hopes Gay Marriages Should Be The Next Big Step After Abolishment Of Section 377
Karan Johar has never been very vocal about his sexuality and faces criticism for the same. After the victorious decision by the court of abolishment of Section 377, a new wave of courage has passed among the masses, to love without any discrimination. With the historical judgement, love has found a new voice of freedom bringing about a change in the society and the narrow-minded mentality in people. As KJo has been criticized for refraining from talking about his sexuality and LGBTTQQIAAP causes, the filmmaker voiced his opinions on the abolishment of Section 377.

The decriminalization and abolishment of Section 377 has brought a new change in the society and has given a new voice to true love without gender bias. Recently filmmaker Karan Johar made an appearance at the India Today conclave 2019 in Mumbai, during the Day 1 of the conclave the director opened about the abolishment of Section 377. During a session at the conclave Cinema Czar: The Final Word – The Dream Maker: Karan Johar on ruling Bollywood, the filmmaker mentioned about what should be the next big step after the abolishment of Section 377. He further added that he believes gay marriages being allowed should be the next big step and expressed how he hopes it happens soon. Later talking about the day September 6, 2018, the news of the abolishment came in, KJo spoke of how the celebration was special for him as it was also the birthday of his father Yash Johar. Knowing the connection the filmmaker was close with his father, the historical judgement was double celebration for Karan. The director added that he woke up and cried for himself and the community as there was freedom finally. Speaking of the historical judgement, Karan added how he was glad as it was finally accepted to love someone you love dearly and celebrate one’s love.

Karan Johar also mentioned how homosexuality is still considered as a taboo in the country and speaking about the time the society will take to accept it, Johar said that it will be accepted over the period of time. He also added that there will be opposition, but cinema and the correct coverage will facilitate it and it will surely happen one day.


Meanwhile, work wise, Karan is producing several upcoming releases under his banner Dharma Productions. The filmmaker will also mark his directorial comeback with the film Takht which includes a huge star cast. Takht is scheduled to release in theaters next year and the excitement on the film among the audiences is crazy.
