Kangana Ranaut’s 'Thalaivi' To Have A Theatrical Release Despite Having Been Offered Record Price For OTT Premiere; Actress Asks Fans If They're Ready
Kangana Ranaut, who is currently shooting for her upcoming film 'Tejas', has an array of exciting projects in her kitty. Amongst them is the highly-awaited 'Thalaivi', which revolves around the life of late politician J Jayalalithaa. The actress has been giving updates on AL Vijay’s directorial on her Instagram. A few days ago, Kangana had refuted rumours of Thalaivi’s OTT release and assured her fans that the film will have a theatrical release.

Now, in her latest post, Kangana has informed everyone that the biopic of the former Tamil Nadu chief minister, Jayalalitha, will release in theatres first before coming on OTT platforms. Taking to her Instagram stories, the actress reshared a post by a media person that reads, “#Thalaivi to have very soon a pan India #theatrical release first despite being offered record #OTT premier rates. After #theatrical will come on streaming platforms - @netflix in #Hindi and @PrimeVideoIN- #Tamil, #Telugu, #Kannada & #Malayalam. #ThalaiviInTheatres soon!”

While sharing the post, Kangana wrote, “Are you ready for Thalaivi," and expressed her excitement with heart emojis.

Take a look at Kangana Ranaut’s post below:

'Thalaivi' had reportedly been offered a record price for OTT amid theatrical release possibilities. As per Pinkvilla report, the movie is sold to both Netflix and Amazon in both Hindi and Tamil for around Rs 55 crore.

Talking about the direct-to-OTT trend, Kangana was earlier quoted as saying, “It depends. For example, a film like ‘Thalaivi' just can't release on digital because it is such a massive scale film, neither a movie like ‘Manikarnika' is a digital space film. But yes, films like ‘Panga', ‘Judgementall Hai Kya' also cater to that audience. The way the film is made, it is very digital-friendly. They have recovered huge costs through digital itself. So, it depends.”

Directed by AL Vijay, the multilingual film was earlier scheduled for a release on April 23, 2021, but it got postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
