Kalki 2898 AD Part 2 To Release After Three Years? Director Nag Ashwin Shares An Update On The Prabhas-Deepika Padukone Starrer Sequel

Kalki 2898 AD was one of the most-awaited films of 2024. The release of the film has left the theatres brimming with eager movie watchers if the rapidly increasing box-office collection numbers are anything to go by. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the dystopian science fiction film which draws inspiration from Mahabharata was released on June 27. As the end credits of Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, and Deepika Padukone rolled in, the makers announced that the sequel will be released soon. Now, after much anticipation, the director has finally revealed when the audiences will be able to watch Kalki 2898 AD’s sequel.
Opening about ‘The Kalki Cinematic Universe,’ Ashwin, during an Instagram live with Prabhas, who essays the role of Bhairava in the film, revealed that part 2 of the film will be released in three years. Producer Ashwini Dutt too opened up about the filming of the sequel and revealed through a press statement that about 60 percent of the shoot of part 2 has been completed. She added that only major portions are yet to be shot. She also revealed that the filmmakers are yet to decide on the sequel’s release date. Opening up about his brief role in Kalki 2898 AD, Haasan, who essays the role of Supreme Yaskin, expressed how his true involvement in the film will happen in the second part of the film. Quoted by India TV News, the veteran actor said, “In Kalki, I played a small character who appears for just a few minutes. My true involvement in the film is just beginning and I will have a much bigger role in the second part. So, I watched this film as a fan and I was surprised.” ALSO READ: DID YOU KNOW? For those who don’t know, Kalki 2898 AD is set in a dystopian era, where a 200-year-old demon named Supreme Yaskin (Kamal Haasan) rules the world with his ‘complex’ setup in Kashi. The film follows the journey of Ashwatthama's (Amitabh Bachchan) plight to protect Maa (Deepika Padukone), who is about to give birth to God, who will save the world from further doom. Prabhas plays the role of a carefree bounty hunter who dreams of entering the complex and leading his best life.
