Javed Akhtar VS Kangana Ranaut ROW: Court States, ‘Sufficient Ground To Proceed Against Lyricist For Criminal Intimidation’- Details Inside
Veteran Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar has been embroiled in a controversy with actress and filmmaker Kangana Ranaut for quite some time now. Known to never mince his words, the court has issued him a summon in a case filed by the actress against him for “extortion and criminal intimidation.” As per the report by PTI, the court has decided to proceed with the case against him for the offence of criminal intimidation.

According to a report by the Free Press Journal, Metropolitan magistrate (Andheri court) R M Shaikh issued a summons against Akhtar on July 24. They have asked him to appear before the court on August 5. It is being reported that no case of extortion was made out against the 78-year-old since asking a person to write an apology letter doesn’t come under the definition of ‘valuable security’ as defined under section 30 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The media publication, in its report, further states that on basis of the complaint, “verification of the complainant” and the statement of Kangana’s sister Rangoli Chandel, the court has come to the conclusion that “there are sufficient grounds to proceed against the accused for offence under IPC section 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (gestures or acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman).” ALSO READ: Kangana Ranaut Claims She Was Always Dumped By Her Ex-Boyfriends; Netizens Say, ‘She Used To Be Very Funny, Went Bonkers During Hrithik Fiasco’

For the unversed, the row between Kangana and Akhtar started in 2020, when he filed a complaint against her. In his complaint he stated that she passed defamatory statements against him during an interview. She had allegedly damaged his reputation by dragging his name while referring to a “coterie existing in Bollywood,” after the passing of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

The actress then filed a counter-complaint in the same court against the screenwriter for alleged “extortion and criminal intimidation.” In her complaint the 36-year-old stated that he had called her and her sister Rangoli to his house with  “malafide intentions and ulterior motives and then criminally intimidated and threatened her.”

On the work front, Kangana Ranaut will be next seen in Emergency. Not only is the movie her first solo directorial, but she will also be essaying the role of India’s late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Apart from that, She has projects like Tejas, Chandramukhi 2 and Manikarnika Returns: The Legend Of Didda in her pipeline.
