Javed Akhtar Accuses Kangana Ranaut Of Lying As He Appears Before Court In Defamation Case; Lyricist Calls Actress’ Comments ‘Nothing But A Lie’
Javed Akhtar appears before the Mumbai court for cross-examination in the defamation case he filed against Kangana Ranaut
Lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar and Kangana Ranaut have been involved in a legal dispute ever since the former filed a defamation case against the actress. On Monday, Javed appeared before Andheri metropolitan magistrate court in suburban Mumbai for cross-examination by a defense lawyer. The lyricist told the court that certain comments made by Kangana during an interview with a news channel after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput were “nothing but a lie.”
As reported by DNA, Kangana's lawyer Rizwan Siddiquee during cross-examination asked Javed, “Is it true that you have not disclosed the true fact of the meeting with her because whatever Kangana said in the interview is true.” And to this, he said whatever claims the actress has made in the interview is “nothing but a lie.” The court reportedly recorded it was not true that Javed Akhtar did not disclose the correct sequence of the meeting held sometime in March 2016. The veteran lyricist also alleged that the 'Queen' actor had come to his house to find some kind of a solution to settle issues with her co-star.
The 76-year-old poet also claimed that Kangana was not ready to listen to him and that she was upset and then left the meeting. Akhtar went on to point out that though he did not know Ranaut personally, he had always liked her work as an actor, but his perception of her changed after their meeting.
For the unversed, in 2020 Javed had lodged a complaint in the magistrate's court accusing Kangana of passing certain defamatory statements against him in a television interview which allegedly damaged his reputation. In the interview after the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, Kangana claimed Akhtar asked her to apologise to co-star Hrithik Roshan saying they are very big people. The Queen actress was quoted as saying, “Once Javed Akhtar called me to his house and told me Rakesh Roshan (father of Hrithik Roshan) and his family are very big people. If you don't apologise to them, you will have nowhere to go. They will put you in jail, and eventually, the only path would be that of destruction you will commit suicide. These were his words. He shouted and yelled at me. I was shaking in his house.”
