After the tragic demise of Irrfan Khan this morning, leaving everyone devastated, we came across an old video of Irrfan when he graced Oscar’s red carpet for his film Slumdog Millionaire with Anil Kapoor and Dev Patel
Irrfan Khan who is known for his work predominantly in Hindi cinema, as well as his works in some of the Hollywood films, passed away today after his health deteriorated due to Neuroendocrine Tumor. He was diagnosed with this rare disease two years ago but today, he lost his battle to this fatal disease. Even though he has left us and we are mourning over him, the incredible work that he has left behind will always be remembered and will be always etched in our minds and hearts. In a film career spanning almost thirty years and featuring in more than fifty domestic films, Khan has received numerous awards, including a Padma Award, National Film Award and Filmfare Awards in four categories.
Film critics, contemporaries and other experts consider him to be one of the finest actors in Indian cinema for his versatile and natural acting. In 2011, he was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian honour for his contribution to the field of arts. Irrfan has done some prolific work in some Hollywood likes Jurrasic World with Chris Pratt, Inferno with Tom Hanks, Life of Pi and the one film that gained momentum was Slumdog Millionaire which was regarded as a sleeper hit. The film was widely acclaimed and was being praised for its plot, soundtrack, direction, and performances.
Speaking of which, we came across an old video of Irrfan when he graced 2009 Oscar’s red carpet for his film Slumdog Millionaire with Anil Kapoor and Dev Patel. In the video, he was asked about his experience to be gracing the red carpet of Oscar, to which he said to NDTV that he feels fantastic. When asked about Slumdog Millionaire’s win, Irrfan said that he is hoping the film will bag 4-5 awards (Slumdog Millionaire went on to win 7 Oscars). Irrfan was also asked about the British and Europeans reaction to the film and he quipped that people have liked and showered appreciation on them. also, the film will inspire collaboration with Hollywood and Indian cinema.
For the initiated, Slumdog Millionaire was nominated for ten Academy Awards in 2009 and won eight awards including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. It won seven BAFTA Awards including Best Film, five Critics' Choice Awards and four Golden Globes.
