Imran Khan experienced immense stardom with the release of his film "Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na," captivating audiences with his portrayal of a 'soft boy' long before the archetype became widely recognized. His character demonstrated that a hero doesn't need to engage in action sequences to win hearts; being the heroine's supportive best friend can be equally impactful. Despite his efforts to leave a lasting impression on the audience, Imran's subsequent films did not perform well at the box office, leading him to step away from the limelight. Around this time, he also went through a divorce from Avantika Malik. Imran and Avantika tied the knot in 2011, but by 2019, they had parted ways due to irreconcilable differences. In a recent interview with India Today, Imran spoke for the first time about the reasons behind their separation. He revealed that he was battling depression at the time and realized that his marriage was not contributing positively to his well-being. Imran stated, "Without going too much into that part, because I'm hesitant to add a lot of fuel to the gossip fire, but as I was dealing with all of this baggage and my internal struggle, I did find that my marriage and my relationship were not helping any of that."
He emphasized that a healthy relationship should involve mutual support and growth, which was lacking in their marriage. "In an ideal, healthy dynamic between two people, you are both making each other better, healthier, stronger, and supporting each other to be the healthiest, best, strongest version. We were not in that place," he added. ALSO READ: Imran Khan Gets FURIOUS On Being Compared With Ranbir Kapoor, Says ‘If Their Film Earns More, Suddenly My Film Is Now Less?’
In an interview with Zoom, Imran discussed how he manages his time and responsibilities, particularly focusing on his daughter, Imara, whom he co-parents with his ex-wife, Avantika. He shared that from Thursday to Sunday, he dedicates his time entirely to Imara, ensuring he is there for her and handles her daily routines. He said, "Thursday to Sunday, I don't take up any work, those are the days I have my daughter with me, so, because I have to take her to school, get her ready, be there and do all of these things. I don't take on work from Thursday to Sunday, I only take on work Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. As in when I start shooting for something then things are going to go for a toss, par fir dekha jayega."
Imran and Avantika were high school sweethearts who began dating at nineteen. They got engaged in 2010 and married in a civil ceremony at Imran's uncle Aamir Khan's home in Pali Hills in 2011. They welcomed their daughter Imara in 2014. After eight years of marriage, they decided to part ways but have maintained a respectful silence about the details of their relationship troubles.
On the personal front, Imran has since moved on and found love with Lekha Washington, marking a new chapter in his life.
