Hindi Medium Director Saket Chaudhary Speaks Out On Angrezi Medium: 'Was Asked To Make The Sequel But Refused'-EXCLUSIVE
Angrezi Medium, starring Irrfan Khan, Radhika Madan and Kareena Kapoor Khan, is releasing tomorrow. Last evening, the makers organized a few screenings for the industry and the media. The critic reviews coming in have not been average, with people liking the performances more than the story. We rated the film 3 stars.

The film is a sequel to Hindi Medium, which received a lot of accolades for its witty plot, story line and direction. So, a day before its sequel hits theatres, we got in touch with Saket Chaudhry, director of Hindi Medium to know if he has seen the film yet, and if he has anything to share on it.

Review

Excerpts from the conversation that followed:

Have you watched Angrezi Medium?
No, I haven't.

You weren't invited for the screening of the film?
(Takes a long pause) No. I am not in touch with the team and Maddock films.

Were you approached to direct it?
No, I was not supposed to do it as I was never keen on a sequel.

Why?
Because I said what I had to in Hindi Medium. I didn't feel the need for a sequel. I make films when I have to say something about it. I felt I told the audience the the story I wanted to. There was nothing new to say about education and family after that.

You're saying that producers (Dinesh Vijan) discussed it with you and you turned down the offer?
Yes, they had approached me but I didn't want to do it.

Director

You surely had a great time making Hindi Medium?
Yes! I made a film where I spent years researching, understanding and it was my passion project- my best piece of work. I am proud of it.

Will you watch Angrezi Medium?
Maybe, maybe not!

What's on the platter next?
I am doing a film for Sajid Nadiadwala- it's an action-drama. We have finalised the script and now, start with the casting process.

Not just Angrezi Medium, but in general do you think franchises are being stretched?
It is a tricky question. If you see, most franchises do well. Some are getting stretched and some are continuing to do well. For eg, Baaghi 3 has done great. It's difficult to answer the question in black and white.

Are you in touch with Irrfan?
I am in touch with him because of his health but haven't discussed work.
