Gunjan Saxena’s Ex-Colleague Slams Karan Johar’s Dharma Production For ‘Peddling Lies’, Calls Janhvi Kapoor Starrer ‘Monstrous’
Janhvi Kapoor starrer Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl released on Netflix a few days ago, and has been the talk of the town, but not for all positive reasons. Earlier, the Indian Air Force had written a letter to the Censor Board objecting to its ‘undue negative’ portrayal in the movie. The film’s depiction of sexism hasn’t gone down well with many, and now, retired Wing Commander Namrita Chandi, who served in the Indian Air Force with Gunjan Saxena, has hit out at Karan Johar’s Dharma Production for peddling lies, and also called the Janhvi Kapoor starrer Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl a ‘monstrous film’ that has shown the Indian Air Forces officers in very poor light.

The title of the letter that was published on Outlook by Namrita Chandi, read, “Dear Makers Of 'Gunjan Saxena', You Cannot Peddle Lies In The Name Of Creative Freedom.” Namrita Chandi mentions in the letter that she has herself served as a helicopter pilot and never faced the kind of abuse that was portrayed in the film. She trained together with Gunjan and wrote that both her letter as well as the film, have little to do with Gunjan. She wrote, “This has more to do with the house of Dharma Productions and of all those penny dreadful story and screenplay writers, who contributed to this monstrous film that has shown us all in the proud blue uniform in very poor light.”

She wrote that she never faced the kind of mistreatment that was shown in the film, and in fact, men in uniform went out of their way to make female officers comfortable. While she did accept there were ‘teething troubles’ like no changing rooms or exclusive ladies toilets, she said that the men made space for them. She further wrote that it was not Gunjan Saxena, but rather Srividya Rajan who was the first pilot who flew Kargil. She also stated that the news that Gunjan Saxena got a Shaurya Chakra is absolutely untrue.

Further advising Janhvi Kapoor, she wrote, “Lady, let me advice you, please, never again do a film of this kind if you are a proud Indian woman. Stop showcasing Indian professional women and men in such poor light. I served for full 15 years as a helicopter pilot and can call myself a very proud Indian Air Force veteran. There is no way that I will allow the image of the force to be tarnished like this, whether it is due to creativity or cinematic license.” ALSO READ: Amid the IAF’s Disappointment Over Its ‘Negative Portrayal’ Gunjan Saxena Aka Janhvi Kapoor Shares BTS Videos Of Her Hard Work
