Gangubai Kathiawadi: Set Of Alia Bhatt's Sanjay Leela Bhansali Film To Be DESTROYED Due To Lockdown?
Reportedly, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has called for demolishment of the sets of his film Gangubai Kathiwadi, starring Alia Bhatt, read on to know why
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiwadi has been among one of the most anticipated Bollywood films, ever since it was announced. The film stars Alia Bhatt in the titular role and is based on the life of fierce sex worker-turned- gangster of the Kamathipura brothel. The first look posters of Alia Bhatt from the same were recently unveiled and they impressed one and all. However, the shooting for this film has come to a halt in the wake of the Coronavirus lockdown.
Now, if a report in Mid Day is to be believed, the brothel-based set – recreated to show Kamithipura on the big screen - for this Alia Bhatt starrer at Film City is all set to be demolished for being unused for five weeks now. The report states that SLB has called for this stern decision. A source close to the production revealed to the tabloid, “In March, Bhansali had cleared the payment for the set maintenance. Even when the shutdown was announced, the team had assumed it would delay the schedule only by a month or so. However, with the situation in Mumbai looking grim, it is unlikely that the shoots will resume soon.”
They added, “After a round of number-crunching, it was seen that recreating the set would probably be a cheaper alternative than keeping it standing in these uncertain circumstances, as the latter entails the daily rent that has to be paid to Film City. So, the team has decided to have the set razed to the ground." When quizzed if shooting in real locations is a possibility, the source added, "The final call will be taken post the lockdown."
There hasn’t been any official confirmation as of now though. Gangubai Kathiawadi is slated to hit the big screens in September 2020; however, it looks unlikely if such a situation continues.
