Filmmaker Mira Nair in her latest interview revealed why she stopped approaching Bollywood actors to work with her across the ocean. She said they were in their comfort zones where they were Gods
We have seen many Bollywood celebrities going overboard and showing off their calibre. Many artists in the industry have explored the horizons and tried their hands at filmmaking of different lingual films other than typical Hindi Film. Actors like Priyanka Chopra, Irrfan Khan, Anupam Kher, Ali Fazal, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Deepika Padukone have carved a niche for themselves in Hollywood too. Filmmaker Mira Nair whose we series A Suitable Boy is soon going to debut on Netflix India, in her latest interview revealed why she stopped approaching Bollywood actors to work with her across the ocean. She said they were in their comfort zone.
Speaking to Zoom TV, Mira Nair said, “Irrfan was always brave in terms of never being afraid to work with me across the ocean. Many many actors I have tried to work with the stars of the time in Bollywood, they were initially not trusting themselves in the international zone. They were perfectly comfortable in the zone at home, where they were the Gods. Really like time ago, while making Monsoon Wedding, I sort of stopped going there. I remember seeing Shefali Jha and I just cast her on the telephone and she came right on board. These are great actors.”
“But now time has changed, because the actors here will have smelled the horizons beyond and I think that the fear and habit that keep them in the Bollywood zone will not make them, this time stay there.”
Meanwhile, Mira Nair’s upcoming film A Suitable Boy stars Tabu and Ishaan Khatter and will stream on Netflix from October 23. (ALSO READ: A Suitable Boy Team Interview: 'Mira Nair Is A Task Master But She Loves Her Actors Immensely'- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO)
