Fatima Sana Shaikh Recalls Having FIVE Epilepsy Seizures Back-To-Back While Travelling Alone; Says, ‘I’m Lucky That I Survived’
Bollywood actress Fatima Sana Shaikh rose to fame with Aamir Khan’s Dangal. She shocked her fans by opening up about her epilepsy diagnosis through Instagram stories early in November. Now, in an interaction with the Hindustan Times, Fatima recalled a horrific incident that left her hospitalised for two days with no familiar faces to take care of her.

As reported by the publication, she was travelling alone on a flight when she had five clusters of seizures. She was rushed to the medical facility of the airport and then hospitalized, where she was admitted for two days. Recalling the incident, she expressed that this episode was one of the most difficult she had to face. She said, "It kept my work and life on hold. For me this was a big jhatka, I really thought I’m lucky that I survived. I’ve had big episodes in the past, but this was the most difficult as I was all alone. For the unversed, epilepsy is a neurological disorder where the brain activity becomes abnormal and causes seizures or periods of unusual behavior, sensations, and sometimes loss of awareness. The 30-year-old actress shared the major episode that led her to finally share details about her condition with her fans. Her opening up during the National Epilepsy Awareness Month (NEAM) was a complete coincidence.

She told HT, "I’ve not hidden it, but kabhi mauka nahi mila. I took some time to understand what it was. There’s so much stigma attached. You think log sochenge that you have an ailment. I didn’t want people to think I’m weak. I was scared that if I tell people that I have this then I will not get work. I, also, didn’t want to accept that I have a neurological condition." On the work front, Fatima was last seen in Anil Kapoor and Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor starrer Thar. She will be seen in Meghna Gulzar’s upcoming movie, Sam Bahadur, alongside Vicky Kaushal and Sanya Malhotra. The actress will be seen playing the role of India’s late Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi.
