Dream Girl: Director Raaj Shaandilyaa Comments On Plagiarism Accusations, Says 'The Idea Belongs To Me And My Co-Writer'
Ayushmann Khurrana and Nushrat Bharucha starrer Dream Girl is soon to hit the theatres. But before its release, the makers got embroiled in a plagiarism controversy. However, director Raaj Shaandilyaa has set thing clear.
Ahead of its release, Ayushmann Khurrana and Nushrat Bharucha's Dream Girl has called for a controversy. The film is being picked up for plagiarism. Filmmaker Janak Toprani has alleged that the makers of Dream Girl copied his idea and made the film. He states that Dream Girl is on similar lines of his film Call For Fun that released in 2017. However, the director of Dream Girl, Raaj Shaandilyaa has rubbished all these reports and has said that it is his original story.
Quoting to Mid-Day, Raaj said, "The idea belongs to me and my co-writer since 2010. We have also registered it. If the concerned director's film was not commercially successful, why would anybody replicate his idea?"
Janak, in a statement, said, "After the trailer released, we took a week to consult a few lawyers. Then, I tried to call Nachiket Pantvaidya [CEO, Balaji] but he did not answer my call," emphasizing that he will take a legal action against the makers if Dream Girl is similar to his film. He also revealed that he had narrated the story of his film to Balaji Telefilms however, the production house let go of the film then. He however cleared that Ekta Kapoor wasn't present during the discussion when he shared his story with the production house.
Dream Girl will make it to the theatres on September 12, 2019. It will have Ayushmann essaying the role of Lokesh, a man who talks and entices men and women by talking to them in a female's voice.
