Director Pulkit Underwent Cancer Treatment While Scripting Bhumi Pednekar Starrer Bhakshak; Recalls, ‘Couldn’t Sleep The Whole Night’
Bhumi Pednekar starrer Bhakshak’s director Pulkit opened up about the scripting process of the film that highlights the real-life Muzaffarpur shelter home case
Based on the Muzaffarpur shelter home case, Bhumi Pednekar starrer Bhakshak has been making the headlines ever since its release. The movie has been receiving rave reviews from the audiences as well as the critics. Bhakshak highlights the horrifying case of young teenage girls being sexually assaulted at a shelter home. Director Pulkit recently opened up about the scripting and shooting process, where also revealed that he was battling cancer while working on the story.
In an interview with the Free Press Journal, Pulkit recalled that it was in the year 2019 that he was “hooked to the IVs in the hospital, fighting a demon called cancer.” it was then that his wife Jyotsana, who co-wrote Bhakshak, suggested that they needed to write so that they can come out of the bad times. It was while searching for the story that they stumbled upon the shelter home mishap in Deoria. He added, “We started digging further and realised a lot of shelter home cases across the country had the same story. We were shaken and suddenly we felt that our pain was nothing. Talking about the most difficult scene to shoot in Bhakshak, the director of the Bhumi Pednekar starrer stated that it was the opening scene. As quoted by the media publication, “It takes a lot to shoot a scene where things are just not easy. It breaks you as a human. I remember after shooting that sequence, I couldn’t sleep the whole night. What broke me was not just that scene we shot but also the fact that what we shot had really happened to someone. This thought still makes me restless. Starring Bhumi Pednekar, Bhakshak is currently streaming on Netflix. Directed by Pulkit, the movie was released on the OTT platform on February 9.
