Director Ashutosh Gowarikar Tests Positive For Covid-19; Netflix's Chale Chalo Lagaan Event Cancelled - EXCLUSIVE
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India, the team had planned to reunite for a Netflix India YouTube Special - ‘Chale Chalo Lagaan’
On 15th June, Lagaan: Once Upon A Time In India, completed 20 glorious years, the film which released in 2001 made cinema history. Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and produced by Aamir Khan was one of the three Indian films to be nominated in the Best Foreign Language category at the 74th Academy Awards. To make this event more memorable Netflix, Aamir Khan Productions, and Ashutosh Gowariker had plans to come together to celebrate this historic moment through a celebratory reunion which would feature the team of Lagaan.
The reunion titled Chale Chalo Lagaan - Once Upon An Impossible Dream would stream on Netflix India’s YouTube channel. However, the event which was supposed to take place today had to be cancelled as the director tested positive for covid 19. A source close to the project informed exclusively to SpotboyE they said, “It was supposed to be a grand event and the whole team was super excited but had to be cancelled as Ashutosh tested positive." Last week while celebrating the milestone Ashutosh had said in a statement, “My ultimate dream was to create something which will linger in the audience's mind. That it would be appreciated 20 years down the line is something that is unimaginable. It is overwhelming for me as well as the entire team of the film that this dream became a reality. Lagaan is the story of people coming together and standing united against all odds. Along with Aamir Khan, the film also starred Gracy Singh, Rachel Shelley, Paul Blackthorne, Suhasini Mulay, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Rajendra Gupta, Raghubir Yadav, Rajesh Vivek, Raj Zutshi, Pradeep Rawat among others.
