David Dhawan praised Govinda as the “king of improvisation,” which he credited as a significant factor in their success. He revealed that they had a special code to identify when a scene wasn’t working. David would say, “rubber hai scene, prolonged, khincha hua hai,” to which Govinda would confidently respond, “David, main pura scene ek shot mein deta hun.” This synergy and Govinda’s quick thinking made their films enjoyable and memorable.

David also spoke about working with Salman Khan and Govinda in the film "Partner." He recalled discussing the project with producer Sohail Khan, who immediately agreed to the casting idea. However, Salman was initially reluctant to join. David persuaded him by saying, “come yaar, let’s do it, it will be a big thing.” During the shoot in Bangkok, Salman humorously remarked to David, “David yaar, isse ladna… fayda nahi hai,” indicating that working with Govinda required a special kind of patience and understanding.

Interestingly, Govinda once shared that Salman Khan personally requested him to leave David Dhawan’s "Judwaa" and let him take over the project. Govinda agreed, and Salman ended up playing a double role in the film, which became a significant milestone in his career. Govinda recounted the incident, saying, “Uss time pe main Judwaa kar raha tha aur kisi din Salman (Khan) ne mujhe phone lagaya, 2-3 baje, aur kaha ki ‘Chichi Bhahiya aap kitni hit doge yaar?’” Salman requested him to give up the film and the director, and Govinda obliged. This decision didn’t lead to any animosity between the actors, showcasing the respect and camaraderie they shared.

David Dhawan and Govinda’s collaboration remains one of the most celebrated partnerships in Bollywood, marked by a series of successful films and a working relationship built on trust, respect, and mutual admiration. Their ability to navigate challenges and maintain a strong bond contributed to their enduring legacy in the Indian film industry.
