Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, gearing up for his film "Animal," contemplated the difficulties encountered while transforming "Arjun Reddy" into the Hindi version, "Kabir Singh." He asserted his lack of interest in pursuing additional remakes and shared the resistance he faced regarding the choice of casting Shahid Kapoor in the lead. Vanga disclosed that the pivotal role initially offered to Shahid was first pitched to Ranveer Singh and elaborated on why Singh declined the part. In a recent conversation with iDream Media, Sandeep Reddy Vanga expressed the intricate challenge of remaking a film with a vast audience base, describing the process as occasionally 'painful.' He revealed receiving persistent requests from Mumbai to undertake the remake. Initially proposed to Ranveer Singh, Vanga expressed his desire to collaborate with Singh on the project. However, Singh eventually declined, deeming the content too intense for his preference at that period. Vanga stated, "First, it was pitched to Ranveer Singh. I wanted to do it with him. Following Ranveer Singh's refusal, Shahid Kapoor was approached for the role of Kabir Singh, despite concerns and reservations expressed by some, as highlighted by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Vanga mentioned doubts regarding Shahid's box office track record, citing that none of his solo films had surpassed Rs 100 crore at that time, with the highest grossing at Rs 65 crore. There were apprehensions surrounding Shahid's suitability for the role, given the perceived box office range of Telugu movies from Rs 55 crore to Rs 65 crore.

There were debates about why Shahid was being chosen, as some believed that if Ranveer had accepted, the film's box-office performance would have been stronger. However, Sandeep maintained his confidence in Shahid, emphasizing his belief in Shahid Kapoor's acting prowess, stating, "But I was always sure about Shahid; he's a fantastic actor."
