Late veteran actor Rajesh Khanna was known as the first Superstar of Indian cinema. He passed away in 2012 after a period of illness. His demise left the entire country in a state of shock. Before his demise however, he was given a chance to rise again as the Superstar. He was reportedly offered a deal by the makers of the controversial reality show ‘Bigg Boss’. In an old interview, the veteran actor’s close journalist friend Ali Peter John has opened up about Khanna receiving an offer from the makers of the Bigg Boss.

Talking about the same, during a conversation with Rediff, John revealed that the Aradhana actor was offered Rs 3.5 crore per episode to appear on the now-popular reality show. The channel Colors and the show’s producer has called him to fix a meeting with the actor. However, Khanna rejected the offer. Quoted by Bollywood Shaadis, Ali said, “Once, the makers of Bigg Boss called me to fix a meeting with him; they wanted him in the Bigg Boss house. But he said, ‘Nahin, nahin, Rajesh Khanna aise show thodi karega’.”

Ali went on to add how despite trying his best to convince Rajesh Khanna to accept the show, the latter stubbornly refused to be a part of the reality show. However, when he decided to accept the offer, the show’s producers and the channel had lost interest in him. He said, “I tried to convince him, but he said no. The Colors (the television company that produces Bigg Boss) people told me they were willing to pay him Rs 3.5 crore for every episode he appeared in, but he said no. A few days later, he called me and said he wanted to do the show, but by then Colors had lost interest.”

For the unversed, Rajesh Khanna was one of the most successful actors of his time. He was touted as the first Superstar of the India cinema. Having been awarded as the Padma Bhushan, India’s third highest civilian honour for his extensive work in the Hindi entertainment industry. However, his witnessed his stardom crumble in front of his eyes after the audience’s started to like Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Angry Young Man’ characters than his romance films.
