Ramanand Sagar’s much-acclaimed show Ramayana (1987) is till date remembered by the audiences. The show and the actors had a huge impact on the audience, so much so that they till date consider Arun Govil, who played the character of Lord Rama and Dipika Chikhlia, who essayed the role of Sita Mata, as god-like figures. The respect the actors get from the audience knows no bounds. However, did you know that before getting a part in the much-loved television show, the actress had starred in a few B grade movies.

According to a report by Bollywood Life, Dipika made her debut as the lead actress in 1983 with Sun Meri Laila opposite Raj Kiran. After gaining recognition for her debut film, she went on to essay smaller roles in big projects like Bhagwan Dada and Kala Dhanda Goray Log in 1986. While searching for more opportunities, she became the leading lady in B grade movies like Cheekh (1986) and Raat Ke Andhere Mein (1987). Her hot and steamy scenes in the horror movies became the talk of the town. After gaining recognition as Sita Mata, Dipika thought that she would get the chance to essay more significant roles in Bollywood alongside many big stars. While she went on to play the leading lady opposite superstar Rajesh Khanna in the 90s, her career started dwindling slowly as filmmakers didn’t want to cast her and tarnish her image as Sita Mata for the audience. For the unversed, even today, the audience sees her as Sita Mata and often criticises her for her social media posts. Talking about facing harsh trolling and mocking, the 58-year-old actress had once said, “I still get messages telling me ‘we see you as Sita Mata, please do not make such reels. Please do not wear such clothes’.”

On the work front, she was last seen in Ayushmann Khurrana’s Bala, where she essayed the role of Yami Gautam’s mother.
