Marathi actor Aroh Welankar made his Bollywood debut with Kabir Khan directorial Chandu Champion. Based on the life of India’s first Paralympic gold medallist, Murlikant Petkar, the Kartik Aaryan starrer has been receiving praise from all corners. The actor, who made his Marathi film debut with Mahesh Manjrekar directorial Rege, essays the role of Petkar’s son in the film. Despite limited screen time, he has been raking in love from the audience. He recently opened up about how he bagged a role in the film after he auditioned for the movie ‘83.

In a recent interview, the Ladachi Mi Lek Ga actor opened up about his experience of working for the director. Sharing an “interesting story” behind getting cast as Aaryan’s reel-life son in the film, he revealed that he has auditioned with Mukesh Chhabra for Ranveer Singh starrer ‘83. While he didn’t get selected for the film, the filmmakers decided to cast him for Chandu Champion.

Welankar added, “I was almost selected, it didn’t work out. However, they had seen my audition and decided to cast me in this role as Kartik Aaryan’s son. I have always admired Kabir Khan; he’s consistently delivered massive hits, often grossing 200-300 crores. He was always on my wishlist.” 

Aroh further elaborated that Khan is unlike many directors who only stay behind the cameras and instruct the crew. He added, “He actively engages with the actors, rehearses lines, and gives and takes inputs. Even though I had a small role in my first film, he involved me in discussions and valued my input. Kabir Khan is truly inspiring, and I feel very fortunate to start my career with such a remarkable director.”


On the work front, Aroh Welkar made a name for himself in the Marathi entertainment industry with films like Rege, Ghanta, Hostel Days. He also participated in two seasons of Bigg Boss Marathi. He will be next seen in Mahesh Manjrekar and Akshay Kumar’s Vedat Marathe Veer Daudle Saat.
