Deepika Padukone’s Next Titled ‘Chhapaak’; Vikrant Massey To Play Her Partner
Deepika Padukone's next with Raazi director Meghna Gulzar, based on the life of acid survivor Laxmi Agarwal has finally got its title. According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, the makers have zeroed down on ‘Chhapaak’ and with the latest developments in the story, we have learnt that Half Girlfriend actor Vikrant Massey has been roped in to play Deepika's partner, Alok Dixit.

Talking about selecting Vikrant for the role,. Meghna said, "The cast is slowly coming together. Vikrant is somebody I’ve wanted to work with since Raazi, after seeing him in A Death in the Gunj. In the film, he plays a North Indian boy who used to be a professional before he decided to become an activist, then, started a campaign against acid violence which is how he came to meet Laxmi in real life. I speak for both Deepika and myself when I say that we are both really excited to have Vikrant play this part.”

Deepika, is equally excited as her director and welcomed her co-star with open arms as she tweeted, “Welcome to the team @masseysahib !!!Thrilled to have you on board!!!❤️”

Vikrant in return, thanked her as he tweeted, “Thank you so much 🙏🏽

Really looking forward to seeing you soon. Love and regards to Ranveer. 🙏🏽❤️”

Earlier, while announcing the film Meghna Gulzar had revealed the reason for  choosing Deepika for playing Laxmi, she had told the daily, “I was instinctively convinced that Deepika would do justice to the character and the story. Also, her physicality matched with what I’d imagined for Laxmi’s character. I’m grateful and encouraged that she was so spontaneous in her decision to do the film. When you take a face as beautiful as hers and portray her as an acid attack survivor, the magnitude of the violence and damage is that much more resounding.”

She further added, “I didn’t think even in my wildest dreams that she would agree to do this role. It’s not easy when your face is your calling card. To agree to put that on the line and disguise yourself as an acid attack survivor for a film is a difficult path to tread,” Meghna points out, adding that they are trying to achieve as much ‘live’ as they can, and prosthetics tests are underway. “There are different looks in the film because of the several stages of facial reconstruction. Luckily, we have great technical talent on board.”
