Filmmaker Onir has many path-breaking films to his credit and amongst them is 2010 released 'I Am', which won many accolades and awards, including the National Award for Best Hindi Feature Film. The movie received praise from the viewers and critics alike. Following the success of the movie, Onir has come up with its sequel titled, 'We Are.' He mentioned that Kubbra will be seen opposite actor Nimisha Sajayan. Speaking about Sait’s casting, the filmmaker said, “I won’t go into much detail right now. But for me, it’s a very special character. She’s playing role of a girl who’s closeted, and is outed without a consent. The story will explore what happens after that.”
The 52-year-old also stated that the upcoming movie will consist of four segments similar to the original movie. He further revealed the film will depict four different aspects of queer life through four stories from different cities.
“It celebrates the Supreme Court verdict on Section 377, but also is a critique of what we are facing right now. For example, recently the government opposed same sex marriage,” Onir said.
For the unversed, 'I Am' was released in 2010 with subtitles in six different languages - Hindi, English, Kannada, Marathi, Bengali and Kashmiri. It consisted of four short films - Omar, Afia, Abhimanyu and Megha. Each film was based on real-life stories and shared a common theme of fear.
