BUZZ: Ranbir Kapoor To Play Martyr Udham Singh In Shoojit Sircar’s Next
Udham Singh, who assassinated Michael O'Dwyer to avenge the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre, will be brought to life by Ranbir
Shoojit Sircar is on a career high after his directorial Pink became one of the
most talked about films of 2016.
After tackling sexual harassment, Sircar has picked an
equally hard-hitting topic for his next.
The filmmaker has announced that his next will be a
biopic of Udham Singh.
Udham is a divisive and sidelined name in the history of
India’s independence movement. The freedom fighter assassinated Michael
O'Dwyer, the Governor of Punjab who endorsed the orders to fire at a peaceful
gathering at Jallianwala Bagh in 1919, triggering one of the bloodiest chapters
in Indian history.

Recently, Shoojit told a leading daily that Udham Singh
is a forgotten hero.
“He was one of the prominent faces of the freedom
movement but youngsters don’t know much about this martyr. He is a forgotten
hero. Through my film, I want the youngsters to know him,” he said.

And if that is the goal, then SpotboyE.com can tell you
that Shoojit has picked the right man to play Udham Singh.
Buzz is, Ranbir will play the martyr.
The star’s last few releases have seen him play romantic
roles (Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Tamasha) and this will be a refreshing change of
pace for Ranbir.
Udham Singh, born on 26th December 1899, was orphaned at
the age of 5 and was brought up in the Khalsa Orphanage in Amritsar.
He was present in Jallianwala Bagh on the day of the
massacre but escaped unscathed. But his young heart was set on revenge.
On 13th March, 1940, Udham Singh shot Michael O'Dwyer in London.
