Bhushan Kumar Confirms New Installments Of Aashiqui And Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin: ‘They’re Both Great Franchises To Take Forward’
It was in 1990 that Gulshan Kumar’s Aashiqui released in theatres and debutants Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal became overnight sensations after starring in the super-hit film. Mahesh Bhatt and T-Series honcho Bhushan Kumar then came up with the second installment of Aashiqui starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor. Not only was the film a huge success, but Aditya and Shraddha shot to fame with Aashiqui 2. Since then there had been talks about the return of the franchise with Aashiqui 3 starring Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra.

In March 2016, Mahesh Bhatt had confirmed with Mumbai Mirror that the Aashiqui franchise was returning, and while Alia and Sidharth had been approached for the project, they hadn’t signed the contract. After that, Sidharth had also said in April 2016, “Aashiqui 3 has lots of angst, love and music… Mohit wants me to sing. Maybe Alia and I can sing a duet, that’d be a first for an actor and an actress who debuted together.” But there wasn’t further progress for the film.

Now, it looks like the discussion for Aashiqui 3 are finally underway. Not just that, Bhushan Kumar and his team also wish to take forward Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, Aamir Khan, and Pooja Bhatt’s 1991 film. A source revealed to Mumbai Mirror, “Aashiqui is special for Bhushan as it’s among the most successful romantic franchises. Like the earlier two films, this one too will be a musical, with an intense love story in its backdrop.” The source also spoke about Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin franchise, and said, “It’s another simplistic musical love story, a genre that has taken a backseat. Both films will take off when things get back to normal.”

Bhushan Kumar also told Mumbai Mirror, “Yes, Aashiqui and Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin are great franchises to take forward. Both films were big hits back in the day and it’s a great responsibility to carry my father’s legacy forward.” ALSO READ: Bhushan Kumar Ropes In Brothers Amaal Malik And Armaan Malik For The First Time In A Unique Digital Concert
