Bhumi Pednekar Reacts On Ageism Debate, Says ‘As Actors, It's Our Choice And You Cannot Question Our Choice’

Bhumi Pednekar Reacts On Ageism Debate, Says ‘As Actors, It's Our Choice And You Cannot Question Our Choice’
Saand Ki Aankh stars Bhumi Pednekar and Taapsee Pannu got stirred up in a controversy for the roles they play in the film. As the ageism debate about the actresses playing the role of a 60-year-old in the film has created a lot of controversy until now, Bhumi and Taapsee have received a lot of flak from actress Neena Gupta and Kangana Ranaut’s sister Rangoli Chandel as well. Opening up about the controversy that hit headlines since the trailer release of the film, Bhumi Pednekar reacts by putting her opinion forward about the ageism debate and older roles played by actresses.

Although the ageism controversy with film Saand Ki Aankh, the film has been well received by the audience since the Friday release. Speaking on a similar topic, in an interview with ETimes, actress Bhumi Pednekar shared her perspective on the topic. The actress spoke how her perspective with co-star Taapsee Pannu is completely in sync. She added that as actors it is their choice of which project they want to choose or no, and nobody can question the choice. Bhumi further mentioned how she agrees to the fact that there is a dearth of roles written for women irrespective of their age and there is a dearth of good roles written for women at a certain age. The actress further went to say how by the end of it, it all depends on the director’s prerogative and mentioned how she doesn’t see anything wrong in casting an actor who doesn't physically fit a certain type of role. Bhumi went on to add that if that was the case then you are completely opposing what the basic definition of being an actor is and that her co-star Taapsee Pannu and she would not end up with a lot of roles that they are doing right now. Pednekar also went on to clarify that she respects what her colleagues in the industry feel and respect everyone who has an opinion, but won’t necessarily agree to it.


 Meanwhile, Saand Ki Aankh is directed by Tushar Hiranandani and is produced by Anurag Kashyap and Nidhi Parmar.  The film also stars Prakash Jha, Vineet Kumar, and Shaad Randhawa and is based on the life story of sharpshooter dadi’s Chandro and Prakashi Tomar.


On the work front, Bhumi Pednekar will be seen in film Pati, Patni Aur Woh co-starring alongside Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday. The actress has also bagged films Bala, Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare and Bhoot- Part One: The Haunted Ship.
