Mrinal Sen Passes Away At 95
7-time National Award winner Mrinal Sen passed away at his home in Bhawanipur, Kolkata on Sunday. He was 95. May his soul rest in peace
It’s the end of an era as Bengali filmmaker and Padma Bhushan awardee Mrinal Sen is no more. Sen, 95, breathed his last at his home in Bhawanipur, Kolkata on Sunday. Sen’s son, Kunal, lives in Chicago and reports suggest that Mrinal Sen’s body will only be cremated once he arrives.
As soon as the news of Sen’s demise spread, eminent actors such as Saumitra Chatterjee, Dhritiman Chatterjee and Aparna Sen, director Buddhadeb Dasgupta and Anjan Dutta expressed their grief. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted about his death and wrote, “Saddened at the passing away of Mrinal Sen. A great loss to the film industry. My condolences to his family,” she wrote in her tweet.

Sen had 7 national awards to his credit and was known for movies such as Baishe Sraban (Bengali, 1960), Bhuban Shome (Hindi, 1969), Mrigaya (Hindi, 1976), Oka Oori Katha (Tamil, 1977), Akaler Sandhane (Bengali, 1980), Kharij (Bengali, 1982) and Khandahar (Hindi, 1983). May his soul rest in peace.
