Bandh Darwaza Director Shyam Ramsay Of Ramsay Brothers Passes Away At 67

Filmmaker Shyam Ramsay one of the seven from the Ramsay brothers, passed away, on Wednesday morning. He was 67. Known for his cult films like Purana Mandir, Bandh Darwaza, Veerana and Zee Horror Show, Shyam breathed his last, this morning around 5 AM. He is survived by two daughters Sasha and Namrata. Reportedly, the filmmaker was suffering from pneumonia since a couple of days.

According to a report in Hindustan Times, his funeral will take place at Vile Parle crematorium today. The Ramsay Brothers, for the longest time ruled the horror genre in Indian cinema with low-budget movies in the 1970s and 1980s. Taking to social media, filmmaker Sumit Kadel wrote, “RIP #ShyamRamsay ji. He had given us many memorable horror films. Heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family.”


Atul Mohan tweeted, “Sad News: King of the horror movies, Shyam Ramsay, at age 67, passed away today morning, following a bout of pneumonia. Born on May 17, 1952, he directed over 30 films including #BandhDarwaza, #Veerana. He was also known for the TV series #ZeeHorror Show. RIP #ShyamRamsay”

A relative close to the filmmaker told PTI, “He was hospitalised Wednesday morning as he was not feeling well, so the family members got him hospitalised. He passed away in hospital due to pneumonia.”
