AR Rahman Hits Back As Trolls Accuse Him Of Forcing His Daughter To Wear A Niqab
Music composer AR Rahman has been brutally trolled as he was accused of forcing his daughter to wear a niqab at the 10 years celebration of Slumdog Millionaire. During the event, Rahman’s daughter was seen sharing the stage with him, wearing a black saree and covering her face with a niqab.

As soon as the pictures made its way to social media, it divided netizens into two groups. While a few supported her decision of wearing a niqab at the event, many slammed the musician for allegedly ‘forcing’ his daughter to cover her face.

And now, AR Rahman too has tweeted a picture on social media, which appears to be his response to trolls. Alongside the picture he has written, “The precious ladies of my family Khatija ,Raheema and Sairaa with NitaAmbaniji #freedomtochoose” In the photograph, his wife Banu has covered her head with a dupatta, while Khatija wore a niqab and Raheema did not- evidently stating that it’s his daughter’s personal choice to don a niqab or not.

A day back, Khatija Rahman had also taken to social media to defend her father and in a long post written, “The recent conversation of myself on stage with my dad has been doing the rounds. Although, I didn’t expect such an overwhelming response. However, there were certain comments which said that this attire is being forced by my dad and that he has double standards. I would like to say that the attire I wear or the choices I make in my life does not have anything to do with my parents. The veil has been my personal choice with complete acceptance and honour. I’m a sane mature adult who knows to make my choices in life. Any human being has a choice to wear or do what he/she wants and that’s what I’ve been doing. Hence, kindly don’t make your own judgements without understanding the exact situation. #freedomofchoice #Embracingmyidentity”
