Anurag Kashyap Quits Twitter Alleging Threats To Daughter And Parents, Says "Thugs Will Rule And Thuggery Will Be The New Way Of Life"

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who is known for voicing his opinions on Twitter without fear or reservations, has now announced his decision to quit Twitter. He left the microblogging site after sharing two tweets about his decision citing online threats to his family’s safety. The Sacred Games director has often criticized the current government and has been subjected to a lot of online trolls, threats and backlash by netizens . Even earlier, Kashyap had shared abusive comments and rape threats directed at his daughter Aaliya Kashyap online.
Now, Anurag Kashyap has quit Twitter and before leaving, he revealed that his family had been getting online threats. The flashpoint was7.23 pm, August 10. It seems the water had come upto his neck and Anurag finally decided to quit Twitter. The filmmaker wrote, “When your parents start to get calls and your daughter gets online threats then you know no one wants to talk. There is going to be no reason or rationale. Thugs will rule and thuggery will be the new way of life. Congratulations everyone on this new India and hope you thrive.” Another one of his last tweets read, “Wish you all the happiness and success. This would be my last tweet as i leave Twitter. When I won't be allowed to speak my mind without fear, I would rather not speak at all. Good bye”.
Anurag Kashyap was among the 49 public personalities who wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing their concerns over the growing cases of mob lynching in India. Post that, the filmmaker had received a death threat on Twitter, which he had forwarded to Mumbai Police.
