Anupam Kher On Article 370 Being Scrapped; Says His Mother 'Wants To Make A House In The Valley’

The entire country is aware of the rough phase the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been facing for years. Being a Kashmiri Pandit by birth, Bollywood actor Anupam Kher cannot forget the pain the Kashmiri Pandits went through during the exodus. With Anupam Kher currently busy filming in New York for his upcoming series, the actor recently made a visit to India for Diwali. After spending over 35 years in the industry now and spending a great Diwali with family and friends from the fraternity, Kher opens about on the scrapping of Article 370, and how the exodus changed the fate of families in the valley.

 Being a Kashmiri Pandit, Anupam Kher has always voiced his opinions when it comes to supporting his community and taking a just stand for them. As the people of the valley have been facing a lot of problems for years now, the abolition of Article 370 has come out as a relief to the people in the valley. According to a report in HT, recently nearly after 30 years of the exodus in the valley with the Kashmiri Pandits, Anupam Kher remembers how the entire incident ruined the lives of countless families. Talking about the gruesome exodus incident, Kher shared how the incident is his being and not an incident that just happened. He added, “It’s not like aap kisi kiraye ke ghar par rehte the aur aapko maalik ne nikaal diya.” Anupam Kher futher spoke about the 300-400 thousand people being thrown out of their houses on the night of January 19, 1990, and mentioned how it’s a wound which will always have its scar on people. The actor explained how sometimes the wounds heal but the memories of pain don’t go away, which always have its scar. He added how just because it’s the resilience of the people that they haven’t picked up arms or did not become violent and just learned to cope up with the situations, mean that they have forgotten all of being thrown out of their houses. As the Anupam Kher praised the decision of the government of the abolition of Article 370, the actor shared how it holds no political subtext for him, but a part of history about the Kashmiri Pandits being picked up and thrown away from their roots and explained how the abrogation holds a completely different meaning for him.


Speaking of his mother and her childhood spent in Kashmir, the actor shared how his mother constantly keeps talking about it because she spent most of her life in the valley. The actor also spoke about the 20 years of his life he spent in the valley during his summer holidays. He revealed how his whole family was there and that his mother has a wish to go back to the valley. Talking about his mother thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kher shared how his mother says, “ab hum jayenge, mujhe apna ghar wahan banana hi hai,” and hopes that his mother’s wish can be fulfilled in her lifetime.



Meanwhile, after the exodus, Anupam Kher has been back to the valley but shared the incident that took place with him at the airport. Kher mentioned that he was stopped at the airport and was not allowed to go any further.

On the work front, Anupam Kher is busy working on his upcoming American TV series, and is stationed in New York for almost 20 months now.
