Padmaavat starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor, initially faced a tough time getting a release date, due to incessant controversies. However, post its release, the audience went gaga when they witnessed some power-packed performances from the trio. The film grossed a whopping 565 crore at the worldwide box-office.
RAAZI
Raazi starring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal in main roles is among the biggest box-office surprises of 2018. The Meghna Gulzar directorial crossed the 100 crore mark at the box office in just 17 days. Set in the India of 1971 and amidst the backdrop of the India Pakistan war the same year, the film covered all the possible eras and ended up grossing 155 crore at the worldwide box office.
SONU KE TITU KI SWEETY
Though Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety starring Kartik Aaryan, Nushrat Bharucha and Sunny Singh initially drew some unwanted attention for being another Luv Ranjan directed, male-chauvinist drama. But its witty content coupled with brilliantly delivered performances by Kartik Aryan, Nushrat Bharucha brought it to the 100 crore club. The positive word-of-mouth publicity tempted others to watch the film. Produced by T-Series and Luv Films, the film stocked its lifetime business at 140 crore worldwide, earning Nushrat her first 100 crore flick.
STREE
Stree starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao had a relatively low beginning but it picked up incredibly well and the horror-comedy emerged victorious at the box office, that too with great numbers. Moviegoers gave it a big thumbs up and the film ended up with a lifetime collection of 130 crore at the Indian box office.
BADHAAI HO
Badhaai Ho, the family comedy, featuring Ayushmann Khurrana, Sanya Malhotra, Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao in lead roles proved that content matters to the Indian audience. Badhaai Ho packed a fantastic total of Rs 66.10 crore in its first week and went past the coveted 100 crore mark in its third week. Being a clean family entertainer, Badhaai Ho broke taboos, by making the audiences laugh out loud. Eventually, it ended with crackling numbers at the box office.
