Adipurush In Trouble; BJP Spokesperson Lashes Out At Director For ‘Misrepresentation Of Ramayana, Calls Saif Ali Khan’s Raavan Look As 'Turkish Tyrant'
The much-awaited teaser of Om Raut’s pan-India project ‘Adipurush’ was dropped on social media recently and it has evoked mixed reactions from netizens. The teaser showed Prabhas as Lord Ram, Saif Ali Khan in the role of Raavana, Kriti Sanon as Sita, and Sunny Singh portraying Lakshmana. Amongst them, Saif got brutally trolled for his look with netizens pointing out that he looked more like Khilji, Taimur/Timur, and Aurangzeb. Even the makers were at the receiving end for using poor VFX effects in the same.

Amidst this uproar against the film, actress and BJP spokesperson Malavika Avinash has lashed out at the makers of ‘Adipurush’ for the “misrepresentation” of Ramayana. She also slammed Saif’s look in the film. Expressing her resentment over the teaser of the film, Malavika told ANI, “I am saddened by the fact that the director let alone researching the Valmiki’s Ramayana, Kamba Ramayana or Tulsidasa’s Ramayana, or the umpteen numbers of interpretations of Ramayana that are available across board as far as Thailand where they do beautiful performances of the Ramayana.” ALSO READ: Adipurush TEASER: Prabhas Trends On Twitter As Fans Make Funny Memes, Jokes And Gifs, Expressing Their Excitement-Read TWEETS

She added, “The least he could have done is gone back and researched our own films; there are so many Kannada films, Telugu films, Tamil films, which show how Raavana looked. He could have just looked up NT Rama Rao or Dr Rajkumar in ‘Bhookailasa’ or any of these great actors, SV Ranga Rao in ‘Sampoorna Ramayana’, to understand how Raavana looked. The Raavana in the photograph that I see floating around is a guy who looks nothing Indian, who has blue eye makeup and is wearing leather jackets. This is our history they are representing; they cannot do it in the guise of creative liberty.”

Earlier in a post on Twitter, the BJP spokesperson condemned Saif’s portrayal of Ravana in the film. Malavika mentioned that he maybe looks like a “Turkish tyrant but is not Ravana.”  On October 2, the first teaser of Adipurush was unveiled at a grand event in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh in the presence of the star cast. The movie is slated to be released in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada on January 12, 2023.
