Adipurush: Case Filed Against Saif Ali Khan For Hurting Religious Sentiments Over His ‘Humane’ Raavan Statement
Saif Ali Khan earned the wrath of many after he made a statement that his upcoming film Adipurush will make Raavan ‘humane’. While he later retracted the statement, a case has now been filed against the actor and director Om Raut
A few weeks ago, Saif Ali Khan’s statement in an interview, that his upcoming film Adipurush will make Raavan ‘humane’ and ‘justify’ his abduction of Sita, landed him in trouble. The actor earned the wrath of many for that statement, and after facing massive backlash, Saif retracted the statement and issued an apology. However, an advocate from Uttar Pradesh has now filed a case against Saif Ali Khan and director Om Raut for hurting religious sentiments.
According to IANS, the plea will be heard in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) in the Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh and December 23 has been fixed as the next hearing date of the case. The IANS report stated that a civil court advocate Himanshi Srivastava, in his petition, said that he has deep faith in Sanatan Dharma, and he alleged that Saif’s interview was a negative portrayal of ‘faith in Sanatan Dharma’. The petition further added that apart from Himanshu, witnesses Vinod Srivastava, Ajit Singh, Brijesh Nishad, Nilesh Nishad, Surya Prakash Singh and Vivek Tiwari saw the interview on December 9 and this has hurt their religious sentiments as well.
Saif Ali Khan had said in an interview with Mumbai Mirror, “It’s interesting to play a demon king, less strictures in that. But we will make him humane, up the entertainment quotient, justify his abduction of Sita and the war with Ram as revenge for what was done to his sister Surpanakha by Lakshman, who cut off his nose.” This stirred controversy and the actor faced backlash for his statement.
Saif had then withdrawn his statement and had clarified saying, “I’ve been made aware that one of my statements during an interview, has caused a controversy and hurt people’s sentiments. This was never my intention or meant that way. I would like to sincerely apologise to everybody and withdraw my statement. Lord Ram has always been the symbol of Righteousness & Heroism for me. Adipurush is about celebrating the victory of good over evil and the entire team is working together to present the epic without any distortions.” ALSO READ: Mom-To-Be Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Munchkin Taimur Slips Into A Cute Spiderman Costume As He Heads Out For A Stroll With Dad Saif Ali Khan
