Bollywood actress Adah Sharma, who has made a name for herself in both southern cinema and Bollywood, recently shared her insights on the pervasive issue of the casting couch in the entertainment industry. Adah emphasized that the casting couch is not confined to any particular region, stating, "Casting couch isn't something that just exists in the South or the North. I think it is something that has been spoken about worldwide. The production of couches exists universally," she told IANS. In a candid interview with LatestLY, Adah delved deeper into her experiences and perspectives on this troubling aspect of the industry. When asked about the prevalence of the casting couch, the 32-year-old actress drew a parallel to other sectors, noting, "As prevalent as it is in the corporate world. But it's more fun for people to read and discuss it when famous actors are involved." When probed about her personal encounters with the casting couch in Bollywood, Adah responded with humor, "Ouch! I choose to sit on the floor," she laughed. Adah also shared her strategies for handling uncomfortable situations during auditions or interactions with industry professionals. She explained, "A professional would never put anyone in an uncomfortable situation. If it's a creepy person, then I excuse myself, run at full speed, block numbers, or just ignore the said human depending on the severity of the situation." Her approach highlights the importance of maintaining personal boundaries and taking swift action to protect oneself from inappropriate behaviour.




Reflecting on her journey in the film industry, Adah expressed gratitude for the opportunities she has received. She spoke about her experiences working on "The Kerala Story" with directors Sudipto and Vipul, where she portrayed a sweet, innocent college girl. The same filmmakers later offered her a drastically different role as a brave soldier in "Bastar: The Naxal Story." Adah appreciated the trust and confidence these directors placed in her, allowing her to showcase her versatility as an actress. "I was so grateful that the same makers who cast me in that role gave me the exact opposite role in less than a year," she said.
