Sholay's Kaalia, Actor Viju Khote Passes Away At The Age of 77
Veteran actor Viju Khote, known for his roles in Sholay, Andaz Apna Apna, Karz, Nagina and more, passed away on Monday. The actor was 77.
Veteran actor Viju Khote who is known for his work in Marathi and Hindi cinema, passed away on Monday. He was 77. The actor had been earlier diagnosed with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome and had gone through bypass surgery too. The actor was hospitalized for quite some time and was taken back home a week ago .He was a diabetic patient and the reason for his death was kidney failure. His funeral will be held in Chandan Wadi at 11 AM.
The actor had a long career span and worked in more than 300 films combined in Hindi and Marathi cinema. Viju Khote is most famously known for his roles in the film Sholay, Andaz Apna Apna. Viju Khote was actress Shubha Khote’s younger brother by 5 years. The actor was also very famous for his role in popular television sitcom Zabaan Sambhalke. The show was popular back in 90’s and was based on the British show Mind Your Language. The veteran actor made his debut on the silver screen in 1964 film Ya Malak. Viju Khote is best known for playing the dacoit Kaalia in the film Sholay and he spoke one of the most famous lines in Hindi cinema: “Sardar maine aap ka namak khaya hai.”
Viju Khote also starred in movies like Qurbani, Karz, Nagina, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Andaz Apna Apna, Prem Shakti, Jai Kishen among other films. Another one of his famous lines was “Galti se mistake hogaya,” from Andaz Apna Apna in which he played the role of Robert.
Actor Viju Khote was the son of a noted stage actor Nandu Khote, whose sister-in-law was actress Durga Khote. Over the years, Viju Khote also performed in Marathi theatre.
