Lauren Gottlieb, who made people groove with her sexy moves, made her Bollywood debut with Remo D’Souza’s Any Body Can Dance (ABCD). The actress then continued to slay it in the 2nd instalment of the film, ABCD 2 with Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor. With a few more films and item songs in Bollywood, we started seeing less of Lauren on the screens. During her recent interview with Mumbai Mirror, the dancer-turned-actress opened up in detail about her absence in Bollywood.

Speaking about the same, Lauren told Mumbai Mirror, “On the social media I continued to present a happy-go-lucky face, but deep down, I was sad and unhappy, seeking solace in alcohol, prescription drugs or anything that could make me happy.” The dancer-turned-actress also revealed that she went off the radar for eight months after she took off to Los Angeles, found a therapist there. She said, “I was stuck deep down a hole, feeling like a victim and desperately waiting for someone to pull me out. It took me a long time to realize that everything was happening for me and not to me." (ALSO READ: Hot Bods Gizele Thakral & Lauren Gottlieb Have A Gala Time)

She recounted how ABCD happened to her when had just lost a role in Step Up 4. She revealed that she was up for a lead role in Step Up 4 and lost it to one of her close friends. She was so devastated that couldn’t even bring herself to wish her. She then realized that it was her ego that was coming in the way and it took her five hours to get over it. As soon as she sent her a congratulatory message, she got an email from the makers of ABCD. “I fell into the trap of fame and fortune, I got greedy,” she added.

Lauren revealed that she never spoke about her feelings to anyone, but they were clearly visible on her face. She said, “When people came to click my pictures, it felt like they were taking something away from me, while I would rather they come talk to me. I would leave the house wearing a baseball cap and headphones, my eyes trained on the ground. It was terrifying! I used to cry all through the long flight from US. But the second I landed, I used to shut off my emotions. I felt so empty.”

Further speaking on ABCD 2, she revealed that she was sidelined completely, cut out of promotions, even some of her portions were edited out of the film. Lauren called it the six worst months of her life including my stint as a judge in the celebrity TV dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.

Talking about the cut-throat competition, she said, “The competitive scenarios in SYTYCD brought stress, and stress hormones degenerate your genes. I started taking prescription drugs and making excuses to my best friend to get out of doing things, pushing myself into isolation. By the time I came to India, I was mentally unwell.  Had I stayed a year or two longer here, I don’t think I would have been alive today.”
