A Toast To A Roast

The world roared with laughter on January 28, as two contemporary Bollywood heartthrobs, sportingly took a volley of verbal thrashing, from a host of comedians and entertainment personalities....

Yes... The AIB Knockout with Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh was nothing short of a revolution on the Indian entertainment scene, and we all loved it!

If you’re a regular at stand-up comedy acts across the country, you have probably witnessed the likes of Tanmay Bhatt, Aditi Mittal, Abish Matthew, Rohan Joshi, Gursimran Khamba and Ahshish Shakya. Two pleasant surprises on the “Roasting” panel were - the angriest man on television, Raghu Ram, and the countrys most joked about film critic, Rajeev Masand...

Another delightful feature of this event, was the host, a.k.a. the roastmaster, Karan Johar. There could truly have been no better choice for this part, as he was just as nasty and Spartan as a roastmaster should be.

All in all a great show, a great cast and extremely well presented act...

There are plenty of reasons to love this new side of Bollywood, but we at SpotboyE.com find that there are just as many to worry about, when it comes to how far we could stretch our feet, considering our traditional limitations...

Sure, this current line of stars is opening up to taking digs at themselves... but how many of them are there who would? 

Here is our analysis of the scene:

1. Ranveer and Arjun are currently the countrys biggest heartthrobs and certainly the most talked about boys today. But why did it take two to tango? 
Truth be told, Arjun Kapoor did seem offended by some of the jokes planted on him... (for instance, the one on Anil Kapoors English and the ones on him failing).. which seemed a little odd as in a show format such as this, theres a good chance that the celebrity is sensitized with regard to the length the jokes could go to...

Even if it was a staged reaction, it begs the question...Are we yet to evolve from the ‘Khandaan pe mat jaa... mode?
Another axiom to this could be that Arjun, is the more sensitive of the two, and probably only agreed to do this with support from Ranveer... Which is by the way, averse to the international format where one star is tackled at a time.

2. Whos next in line? Alia... Sonakshi... Priyanka Chopra... Nahhhhh...
Remember how sensitive some of our stars can be sometimes? Even to negative comments on Twitter? .... Thats right....
Apart from the younger generation of stars who have recently joined the bandwagon and the invincible SRK ... very few of our B-towners would be willing to take such an intense load of digs against their egos...

Another example of this anomaly would be a firebrand reality show that ran a few years ago based on its American sibling H8ters . Rumour has it that this show had to shut down early as many celebrities took offense to how they would be represented on air, against a bunch of Nobodys...

3. Dont forget to thank the Roasted... PROFUSELY.....!!
Unlike its popular international parent, this event saw a lot of gratitude being meted out to Arjun and Ranveer, almost as if apologetic about the whole thing.

Hence proving points 1 and 2....

4. Lastly, we never thought wed say this... but some angry tweets from the countrys most hated man, K.R.K., got us thinking about a few things:




A. There were plenty of digs taken at Raghu for being crass and abusive on his show... IN HINDI... yet, when the likes of Arjun and Ranveer use the same words... guess its ok...

B. Deepika doesnt mind being objectified in the form of the jokes in this show, yet has a problem with a popular publication using the word Cleavage ..

Nonetheless... We truly hope that this new wave of bold and upfront entertainment is here to stay, despite all our aforementioned FEARS, and look forward to a lot more where that came from...
