7 Years Of Tiger Shroff: Here's Why The Heropanti Actor Is A Complete Bollywood Hero Package
As Heropanti clocks in seven years of its theatrical release today, here’s a look at Tiger Shroff's career, who is responsible for changing the image of Bollywood action hero and emerging as the next superstar
Up until 2014, if there was a discussion about action heroes in Bollywood, the names that would come up would be of Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar. While Ajay made his intentions clear with his uber cool entry sequence, balancing himself over two moving bikes in his debut film Phool Aur Kaante, Akshay established himself as the ‘khiladi’ of Bollywood with his multiple films across the Khiladi series. Their agility and fight sequences made them Bollywood’s most loved action star.
However, in the 2010s, Bollywood got a new meaning of an action star. Action wasn’t limited to fighting the goons or doing stunts on vehicles, it became much more detailed and nuanced and it was all because of Tiger Shroff. The actor debuted in 2014 with Heropanti opposite another newcomer Kriti Sanon, and took the film industry by storm.
Tiger showed the audience as well as the industry that it takes years of hard work and precision to make an action star look authentic on screen. His ripped physique and 8-pack abs made the audience swoon over him. His flexibility and gymnastic skills showed unimaginable action sequences that seemed believable, and to add to that, his swag, that he kind of also gets from his dad Jackie Shroff, made him the perfect action star.
But that wasn’t just it. The actor had some other tricks up his sleeves as well. There have been many dancers in the film industry, but rarely there have been complete performers who can even give the professionals a run for their money. After Hrithik Roshan and Shahid Kapoor, it was Tiger who came up to take that legacy forward. His moves could put anyone else to shame. But being the modest man that he is, Tiger went ahead to say in interviews that he isn’t a good dancer but he can perform well what he has been taught.
As for his acting prowess, Tiger proved from his first film that he was here to grow and wasn’t going anywhere soon. The actor got some criticism for his acting skills, but he grew with each performance. Early on in his career, as he was being stereotyped as just an action hero, he made a bold choice to try something different by playing a superhero in The Flying Jatt. Unfortunately, it didn’t work, but just two years later, Tiger returned with the second outing of the Baaghi franchise and broke several box-office records.
The actor found his niche audience within the kids. If you ask any kid today who their favourite actor is, most of them would answer with his name. His action skills that he has showcased across films like Heropanti, Baaghi 1,2 and 3 and War, and his dancing skills that he has mesmerised everyone with in songs like Whistle Baja, Befikra, Beat Pe Booty and The Jawaani Song, among others, have taken away hearts of many. However, his most amazing, ambitious and truly worthy performance came in the film War when he got to collaborate with his idol Hrithik, and especially the song Jai Jai Shiv Shankar where the two dancing legends set the screens on fire with their moves.
Tiger is the youngest actor to have headlined a 100-crore film and a 300-crore film and is surely amongst one of the few superstars from this generation. He is also the youngest actor to headline three franchises, that too just within seven years of his career, with Baaghi, Heropanti and the upcoming franchise Ganapath by Vikas Bahl. On the professional front, he has Baaghi 4, Heropanti 2 and Ganapath in the pipeline.
Just within seven years, Tiger has proven himself to be an uncompromisable asset to the Hindi film industry and has shown the potential to be the next superstar of Bollywood. All there’s left is to see this star grow and shine brighter within the industry.
