#MeToo To #MainBhi: Rape Accused Alok Nath Plays A Judge Taking Strong Action Against Sexual Harassment
Last year, TV show writer Vinta Nanda accused Alok Nath of raping her nearly two decades back. Now, the latest reports suggest, Alok Nath will be seen playing a judge, who takes a stand against sexual harassment. The actor says, he shot for the film long back
In October, last year, Bollywood’s sanskaari Babuji, Alok Nath was accused of rape by ‘90s famous TV show, Tara’s writer Vinta Nanda. Vinta and Alok worked together on the show (Tara) back then. After her long heart-wrenching post created a stir in Industry, Nanda had filed a case against the actor, nearly to decades after the incident. A month after the accusations, Alok Nath was expelled by Cine and TV Artistes Association (CINTAA) till further notice. Now the recent update about the actor is that he will appear in a film, that too playing a judge who condemns sexual harassment- what an irony?
According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Alok Nath will be seen in a film #MainBhi (#MeToo in Hindi), where he is playing the role of a judge who takes a strong action against sexual harassment. When the leading tabloid contacted him, he said, “I’m not doing any films at the moment. This was something I shot for a while ago.” He further asked Mirror, “Is there a problem? You sound sad that I’m doing a film. It’s a puny role for poor producers, let it release.”
#MainBhi also stars Khalid Siddiqui, Shawar Ali and Imran Khan, who told Mirror, that the actor will be seen giving a speech about how molestation is wrong, in the end of the film. Reportedly, Mukesh Khanna and Shahbaz Khan will play the lawyers.
Khalid Siddiqui told the leading tabloid, “The film deals with child molestation, a subject that hasn’t been tapped on screen often, particularly with regard to boys. My character, along with the other, are affected by incidents that change our lives. We hope the film starts a debate on the subject.”
Apart from Vinta Nanda, other actress who had called out Alok Nath in the wake of #MeToo movement were Sandhya Mridul, Himani Shivpuri and Deepika Amin. In January, Alok Nath, was granted anticipatory bail by the Dindoshi Sessions Court.
