Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap recently made it to the headlines for all the wrong reasons. In a tweet on social media, actress Payal Ghosh accused Kashyap of sexual misconduct and mentioned that he forced himself on her. It was recently that Kashyap’s lawyer issued an official statement on his behalf. After Anurag Kashyap, Richa Chadha’s lawyer issues a statement condemning the name of the actress being falsely dragged into controversies. The statement from the Panga actresses’ lawyer comes after Payal Ghosh’s #MeToo allegations against Kashyap.
On Twitter, Richa Chadha shared a picture of the official statement released by her lawyer, dated September 21, 2020. The official statement issued by Richa Chadha’s lawyer, Advocate Saveena Bedi Sachar, reads, “Our client ‘Ms. Richa Chadda’, condemns the act of her name being unnecessarily and falsely dragged in a defamatory manner into controversies and allegations being recently raised by third parties. Though our Client believes that genuinely wronged women should get justice at all costs, there are legislations that are intended to ensure that women have an equal standing in their workplace and to ensure that they have a cordial workplace in which their dignity and self-respect is protected. No woman should misuse their liberties to harass other women with unsubstantiated or non-existent, false and baseless allegations. Our Client has initiated appropriate legal action and shall further pursue her legal rights and remedies in law as may be advised in her best interest.”
As the Panga actress takes a stand against her name being dragged into controversies and allegations, her statement states that apart from all that, Richa Chadha believes that ‘genuinely wronged women’ should get justice at all costs. Chadha’s statement also mentioned that no woman should misuse their liberties to harass other women with ‘unsubstantiated or non-existent, false and baseless allegations’.
Meanwhile, Richa Chadha’s lawyer’s statement comes after Anurag Kashyap’s lawyer issued an official statement on his behalf. Chadha’s lawyer issued the statement on her client’s behalf after the name of the actress popped up in the recent #MeToo allegations levelled by Payal Ghosh against Anurag Kashyap.
