“Maafi Maango Nahi Toh Zubaan Kheech Lenge,” Karni Sena Threatens Javed Akhtar For His “Ghoonghat Ban” Comment
Yesterday, during an event in Madhya Pradesh, Javed Akhtar made a controversial statement when the lyricist said he was not averse to enacting a law banning burqa if it was accompanied with a similar action against the ‘ghoonghat’ system prevalent among women in Rajasthan. This has miffed Karni Sena and now they have threatened Akhtar to apologise or be ready for dire consequences
Javed Akhtar has called for trouble as the famous lyricist, yesterday, at an event in Madhya Pradesh spoke about the burqa ban and said that the ghoonghat system in Rajasthan should be outlawed too if burqa ban is being considered. This statement has left Karni Sena furious, who often march down on the streets to stage a protest against anything and anyone who speak differently from their language and understanding.
Javed Akhtar made the statement in reply to Shiv Sena urging the Indian government to emulate Sri Lanka in banning burqa on grounds of national security. He had said, “If you want to bring a law banning burqa, I have no objection. But before the last phase of election in Rajasthan, this government should announce a ban on the practice of ‘ghoonghat’ (covering of the face by Hindu women) in that state. I feel that ‘ghoonghat’ should go and burqa should go. I will be happy,”

Reacting strongly to Javed’s comment, Jeevan Singh Solanki Maharashtra Karni Sena Chief has recorded a video and given a 3-day ultimatum to Javed Akhtar to apologise. In the video, Solanki has condemned Akhtar, and even threatened to hurt him physically if he doesn’t take the comment back. The Karni Sena Maharashtra Chief also reminds him of the time Sanjay Leela Bhansali had to bear the brunt while shooting Padmaavat in Rajasthan. Watch the video below:

You may recall, Karni Sena had staged a major protest against the release of Padmaavat as they felt the facts regarding Rani Padmaavati has been tampered with. The fight went on for long, however, the film finally saw the light of the day. Coming to their recent controversy, let’s see how Akhtar, who is known to voice his opinions clear and loud, reacts to this threat.
